“Kicks 66” sculpture now open near National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum

The towering “Kicks 66” sculpture of a 35-foot-tall red cowboy boot is installed and ready to greet Route 66 enthusiasts as they travel along the Mother Road.

The iconic sculpture, located in the east parking lot of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, 1700 NE 63rd, was created by local artist Cameron Eagle to honor the 100th anniversary of Route 66.  Eagle is submitting the sculpture to Guinness World Records for the world’s tallest boot.

City leaders celebrate grand opening of MAPS 4 Diversion Hub

City officials cut the ribbon today on the MAPS 4 Diversion Hub, a 35,575-square-foot facility that will provide comprehensive support services to people and families impacted by the criminal legal system.

With the new $19-million facility, Diversion Hub can expand its work to transform the City’s approach to the criminal legal system and relieve pressure on the Oklahoma County jail. Diversion Hub helps people navigate and exit the legal system while addressing needs to prevent future justice contact.

Authority Approves Schematic for Sports Complex

LAWTON – The Lawton Youth Sports Trust Authority is ready to start the second phase in designing the city’s youth sports complex.

After reviewing a schematic design for the complex, the authority voted unanimously May 8 to accept it. The board also authorized Chairman Brian Henry to notify Eastern Sports Management, which is the design consultant on the project, and the architectural firm ADG Blatt to move on to the design development phase.

The schematic design phase involved laying out a floor plan, planning how the building’s exterior would look and envisioning the layout of the site, Henry said in an email to a Southwest Ledger reporter. The design development phase will focus on the details of the floor plan, the exterior look and the site plan.

Fox 23 News-Tulsa County Courthouse Repairs Begin Tuesday

Tulsa County said a concrete pad is being poured on the week of Feb. 10 to support a large crane on the east side of the courthouse. Sidewalks and lanes will be closed along South Denver Avenue. One southbound lane of South Denver Avenue will be closed for the entirety of the project, which is expected to take two years.
